Lodhi Garden: Visit Wonderful Place in Delhi

The Lodhi Garden is situated in the city of Delhi in India. It extends over an area of 90 acres approximately. This garden contains the Tomb of Sikander Lodhi, Tomb of Mohammad Shah, Bada Gumabad and Sheesh Gumbad. The garden depicts the architectural style of the 15th century. Now the garden is under the protection of Archeological Survey of India. The Lodhi Garden is serene and gorgeous location for the people of Delhi for a morning walk.

A big dome known as the Bada Gumabad is situated in the middle of the Garden. It is like a dome which is constructed with large amount of debris. This dome is a gateway which is attached to a mosque with three three domes. Sikander Lodhi built this mosque during his reign in 1492. The central courtyard of the mosque also has a residence where one can see the water tank remains. The Sheesh Gumbad lies just opposite to the Bada Gumbad. The Sheesh Gumbad got its name because of the use of the glazed tiles in the construction. This gumabad was also built during the reign of Sikander Lodhi.

The tomb of Sikander Lodi is still enclosed by battlements. It is connected to the Yamuna River with some remains of water course. Adjacent to the tomb of Sikander Lodhi, there is a bridge which is known as the Athpula Bridge i.e. eight pierced bridge. It is one of the last buildings built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar during his reign. There are seven arches in the building; out of them the central one is the largest.

One can see the Mohammed Shah’s tomb from the road. It is the most basic structure of gardens. You can categorize the architectural style with the help of octagonal chambers and guldastas on the corners of the tomb. The Lodhi Garden is an example of architectural brilliance and therefore it is a crucial place for preservation.
