Kumarakom: A Tourist Place of Tamil Nadu

The backwaters of Kumarakom are located near the city of Kochi in the Tamil Nadu State. It is placed at a distance of 15 kilometres from Kottayam. This place is well known for its scenic beauty and serene surroundings. It is also popular for Ayurveda practices. In summers, the climatic conditions are humid and hot but in winters, the weather is cool and pleasant.

Some of the major attractions of this Kumarakom are Travancore Zoo, PalaceofPuttan Malikaand most importantly the lush green surroundings of the place itself. This is the reason why this place is famous by the name of the Vembanad’s Queen. The cruise ride becomes much more enjoyable by the composed waters of Vembanad Lake. One can find fishing boats, palm fringes and pots laden boats next door to this lake. This place is so adorable that Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was the former prime minister of India, also enjoys vacation here.

The Driftwood Museum of Bay Island is also a major attraction to Kumarakom. It has a sloping roof over a distinctive building. The chiseled debris collected from the shore of the islands of Andaman and Nicobar in Bay of Bengal. It is popularly known as “The Art of the Sea”. It is a must visit place for all the tourists who are in Kumarakom for vacation.

The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is home to a number of bird species which are rare or endangered. It extends over an area of 14 acres. Some of bird species found in this sanctuary are darters, teals, storks, egrets and sot herons. The tourists can carry binoculars for a better view of these birds.

This place is well connected to all the major cities of India via a strong network of transportation. The Kochi Airport is the nearest international airport. Apart from this, the tourists can also take the services of roadways and railway transfer means to reach this place.
