The Durga Puja is devoted to Goddess Durga. ‘The inaccessible’ and ‘the invincible’ are the main synonyms of Goddess Dura. The Goddess Durga is considered to be the Mahadevi or we can say the Supreme Goddess according to Hindu mythology.

Durga Puja in India is celebrated every year in order to worship Durga Mata. The Puja is included among the most significant festivals in the country of India. It is not only a festival for Hindus but it is also considered as a celebration of culture, life, traditions and popular customs. The festival of Durga Puja is a time of rejuvenation and reunion for spreading love, care and affection.

This puja is celebrated by the Hindu all around the word. But it is a major festival in the eastern part of India. The festival is celebrated with a great enthusiasm and energy in West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Tripura, Jharkhand and Assam. As the Tripura and West Bengal are considered, the Durga Puja is the greatest festival in these regions. In addition, this festival is also celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Kerala.

Generally Durga Puja falls in the month of September or October of every year. There is a great legend behind celebrating this festival. The legend relates to the killing of powerful demon Mahisasur by Shakti.

Durga Puja is distinguished as one of the main festival in Bengal region. In addition to this, the festival is considered as the most significant social and cultural event among the Bengali society. The festival is celebrated for a period of nine days. All these nine days are full of energy and spirituality. People worship Durga Mata in order to finish the evil from their souls. During these days various cultural activities are performed. So it is a great Hindu festival which symbolizes the victory of goodness over evil.
