Mathura: Famous for pilgrims of India



Mathura is located in the UttarPradesh state of Northern India. It is adjacent to the Vrindavan town and the Gowardhan town. It was a monetary hub in the past. Mathura is the birth place of Lord Krishna. Mathura is mentioned in epics the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana as the center of the Surasena ruler Kansa who was the maternal uncle of Shri Krishna. Mathura is considered as the oldest town of India because it is mentioned in the oldest epic of Indian mythology, the Ramayana. This city is counted among the seven most holy cities of India.

It is a sacred place for Hinduism which is the third largest religion of the humanity. There are a number of places in Mathura which are very important from historical and religious point of view. There are a number of temples in Mathura which makes it even more pure. the Keshav Dev Temple, the Naam Yog Sadhna Mandir , the Dwarikadheesh Temple, the Vishram Ghat, the Birla Mandir etc. are some of the famous temples of this beautiful city. Mathura has played a vital role in Indian culture. The Raslilas of Mathura are well-known in all over the world. The language spoken in Mathura is Hindi but with some variations and this modified form of the Hindi language is known as the Brajbhasha.

Another city Vrindavan which is next to Mathura is also popular for its holy places and temples. It is believed that Vrindavan is the city where Lord Krishna spent his youth days in ancient times. The famous Temples of Vrindavan are the Prem Mandir, the Banke Bihari Temple, and the Iskcon Temple etc.

Mathura is a true combination of art and mythology and this is the reason why it attracts a number of people every year from all over the world.
