Popular Festival Dussehra Celebrate in India

Dussehra is a popular festival of the Hindu community. This festival is celebrated throughout the country and the world with great passion and enthusiasm by the Hindus. The festival of Dussehra is also known by the name of Vijay Dashami. This festival gives the great message of good over evil.

According to the astrophysical calendar, the festival of Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindi month Ashwin. Usually the festival falls in the month of September or October of every year. According to the Hindu mythology, there are several reasons behind the celebration of Vijay Dashami. The most popular reason among all these is that Lord Rama has killed the demon king Ravanna on this day. Just because of this, the day symbolizes the triumph of truth over lies.

Vijay Dashami is celebrated by setting fire to the model of demon king Ravanna, his brother Kumbhkaran and his son Meghdoot. These effigies of Ravanna, Kumbhkaran and Meghdoot are huge in sizes which are filled with crackers. Vijay Dashami is also a very significant day for ‘Ramleela’ drama.

Another legend is connected to Goddess Durga. It is believed that on this day the Goddess Durga has killed demon Mahishasur. It is said that, the battle between Goddess Durga and demon Mahishasur was continued for nine days and night. Finally on the tenth day, the Durga Mata has killed Mahishasur and got the victory.

On the day of Vijay Dashami, big fairs are organized at several places. People wear new clothes and hug each other. So if you have not yet enjoyed the auspicious festival of India then make sure you plan your trip and see the Dusshera celebrations.
