The Beautiful Fort of Golconda is considered among the seven speculations of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated at a distance of 11 kilometers from the city of Hyderabad, the city famous for the Kohinoor Diamond.
This fort got its name from the temple of Kai which is a part of this fort. The meaning of Golkonda , a word In Telugu is the Hill of Shepherds. The Recherla Vellamas who were ruler of Rajaconda, Golaconda and Devarconda, administered this fort in the past. The control was passed to the Bahamani Kingdom when they defeated the Racherla Velemma. Later it rose to the Qutab Shahi in 1507 after the fall down of Bahamani Kingdom. This fort contains four different types of forts within it surrounded by a wall of 10 kilometers. It has royal apartments, cannons, four bridges, temples and 8 gateways inside it. The Fateh Darwaza which is engraved with big spikes of iron has a magnificent architecture.
